Objective
Exact Sciences came to EPAM to define and create the vision and roadmap for ExactNexus, their technology platform that unlocks the power of the portfolio. To do this, we conducted a comprehensive discovery process, including interviews with over 50 key business stakeholders across the organization, to thoroughly understand the current state, identify and evaluate opportunities and gaps, assess their value, and prioritize them within a clear, actionable roadmap.
Research & Insights
Throughout the process, we learned stakeholders are aligned on the what, but not the how.
From a people perspective, stakeholders feel there are constantly changing priorities that shift what teams need to work on. Teams are siloed, with competing incentives.
From a process perspective, it is limited and/or changing, with confusion over roles and responsibilities.
From a technology perspective, there is difficulty with adoption, growing tech debt, and inherited architecture.
Without alignment on the vision and strategy to get there, Exact Sciences risks becoming βthe Cologuard company.β ExactNexus facilitates the business transformation of Exact Sciences so it can realize the value of its acquisitions and fulfill the mission of eradicating cancer.

The Solution
Developed a vision for ExactNexus and backcasted to define objectives for Horizon 1 and Horizon 2.
From there, we developed a high-level roadmap by aligning ongoing, planned, and potential initiatives to the defined horizons.
Throughout the process, we discovered that many employees lacked a clear understanding of what ExactNexus is, how it impacts their day-to-day work, and why it is critical for Exact Sciences. To address this gap, we created socialization materials to effectively communicate the purpose and value of ExactNexus to employees across the organization. Below is a visualization of the platform, highlighting its technologies, capabilities, and the flow of data between them.
